Arizona Daily Star Letter to the editor:

A very special thanks for life-saving rescue

Recently I was hiking in a wilderness area in the Catalina Mountains north of Arizona National Golf Club when I suffered a massive heart attack. Although I have lost 50 percent of my heart capacity, I have my life due to some special people that I would like to thank. I was able to call 911 and the Southern Arizona Rescue Association, the Pima County Sheriff's Department and the Rural-Metro Fire Department responded.

My thanks go out to everyone involved in my rescue, but especially to the Southern Arizona Rescue Association, since it is an all-volunteer organization whose members provide their own equipment and train on their own time. Also they have to climb these beautiful, rugged mountains to save people like me. I wish I knew the names of the people who saved me. I think of them often.
