Search and rescues crews worked to save a man after he jumped off the Tanque Verde Falls near Redington Pass Monday afternoon.
According to rescue workers, the 28-year-old
man was with his brother, and had been drinking,
when he thought it would be a good idea to jump from the 40
foot falls, unknowingly into shallow water.
Crews hiked down 30 to 40 feet to reach the victim.
Weather was not working in rescuers favor, as
the threat of flash flooding made things slippery and required them to
wear life jackets as a precaution.
A helicopter flew in, lowering ropes to
ultimately pull the man out of the creek in a basket. He was then taken
by ambulance from the base to a local hospital.
The man suffered severe injuries including
many broken bones and rescue workers say he is lucky to be alive. He is
in serious condition.
